The drones, described as fixed-wing aircraft with multiple lights and wingspans of eight to 10 feet, have evaded detection, sparking fears about their origin and purpose.

The aircraft had taken off from Valencia bound for Ibiza, carrying 98 passengers and six crew members. Most were believed to be holidaymakers returning home after the festive season.
