The WRAL Severe Weather Center is tracking a significant winter weather system that could bring ice to the Triangle over the coming weekend.

While the forecast remains locked in on rain for most of the area, there are still some very real concerns about the possibility of freezing rain in north and far eastern counties.

Despite being in the heart of the metro, wind chills approached -50° at times, firmly in the range where frostbite can occur on exposed skin in just minutes.
