Accumulating snow is possible this weekend as a major winter storm eyes a large swath of the U.S., but what exactly the area will see remains uncertain.

At least one person was killed in a fire Friday on the city's Northwest Side, a Chicago Fire Department spokesperson said.

The House approved Department of Homeland Security funding Thursday. The bill now moves to the Senate, with final approval needed next week.

Dozens of libraries would also be closed, the Emergency Closing Center reported. Some popular Chicago-area museums also announced closures due to the cold, including the Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium.

Chicago's inspector general is urging city departments to do more to monitor overtime payments to city employees, after finding the city paid out tens of millions of dollars in overtime to employees who might not have been eligible over five years.

Following Saturday morning, temperatures over the rest of the weekend will likely remain above zero. But parts of the Chicago area may see some snow.
