In recent years, the quality of catching at the Major League Baseball level has ticked up a few notches. Several years ago, it was a position of great weakness, or at least it was top-heavy.
Pitchers and catchers reporting early for Spring Training isn't just about early baseball excitement. It's a pivotal week that could give insight into how the roster is finalized.
The fact is this: Arrambide was the No. 1 high school catcher going into the 2024 MLB Draft, but the Tigers were able to get him to campus with the intention of him being a multi-year starter behind the plate. We got a glimpse of it in 2025, now we’ll see the plan really come to fruition in a couple of weeks.

2026 MLB spring training start dates: Pitchers and catchers report to Florida, Arizona next month
Major League Baseball's offseason is winding toward completion. Players will soon be on their way to spring training camps in Arizona and Florida and pitchers and catchers are officially due to report in less than a month. Soon thereafter, exhibition games will get underway, and before long it'll be Opening Day 2026 (Thursday, March 26).
