Hendrix Lapierre ended a 90-game goal drought, Alex Ovechkin had an empty-netter and the Washington Capitals beat the Calgary Flames 3-1 on Friday night to end a four-game losing streak.

The Calgary Flames were in need of a win after losing three-straight outings on home ice, and looked like they were well on their way early. The Flames held a 2-0 lead after the first period, one in which they outshot the Anaheim Ducks 17-2.

Morgan Frost scored for the Flames (21-25-5), who have scored just one goal in each of their past three games and have lost them all (0-2-1) since defenseman Rasmus Andersson was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. Devin Cooley made 35 saves.
